We are beginning to learn about Immigration. As we talk about families immigrating to, and starting a new life in the United States, it’s important to know where our family roots came from! This can also open a discussion about your family stories and history. Your January Einstein challenge is to:
Fill out the family tree as much as possible, hopefully all of it. Call up Grandma or Grandpa or Great Aunt Mary and learn about your family! For some families, this information may be difficult to find or to talk about, please fill in what you are able to. For any areas where it is not known, simply write “NK”.
The second part of the challenge is to pick ONE of the following:
a. Interview a person who has immigrated to America. This could be a family member, neighbor, whomever! Find out about his/her life. When did he/she immigrate? Why? How? What cultural foods/traditions/clothing did he/she bring to the USA? Use the “Immigrant Interview” questions to guide your discussion. Write down the responses. b. Research your family’s culture and roots. Pick one of the countries where your ancestors came from. Fill out the “All About ___” organizer.
